What is a PDA?

I know, I know, I have been awful about blogging! Honest...I'll try harder!

Either way, I've been looking at possibly getting a Garmin iQue 3600, a combination of a PDA and a GPS unit. I've been checking out prices on the web...it's not a cheap toy (I really only "need" the PDA part to replace my Treo 300).

We actually have a really nice sporting goods shop in Antrim, so I figured if I do end up buying one, I might as well keep the the money local. I rang them up (and then visited them). Neither gentleman I spoke with know what a PDA or Personal Digital Assistant was.

Please don't take this a derogatory...neither had reason to ever use one (or interact with someone who actively used one)...but it is interesting how something I find so essential isn't even in their vocabulary...

And speaking of how things are different here than in the city...

We went to Peterborough for dinner, and as we just got out of our car a couple older ladies rolled down their windows to see if we were going to the movies -- so they could warn us it was sold out and save us from walking to the theater.

I love it here...

The most beautiful day so far

First, for those listening in, my apologies about being truant in making blogs...I will be more dependable...

Since we moved up here late on July 26th, this has been the most beautiful day. Although a bit windy, it has been cool and partly cloudy...a great day to be outside.

I know, I know...cool doesn't sound perfect to most people, but fall is my favorite season. As I've said way too often, you can always put more clothes on, but you can only strip so far before you are arrested :-)

We didn't do a heck of a lot, but we did visit our woods again...and the dogs had a great time. Bear hasn't quite become a water dog, but he didn't let our creek prevent him from seeing anything he was interested in.

I'm debating how much "work" to do tonight (not "work work")...I was traveling all last week and could use a little bit of a rest before the work week starts again...

Rudimentary tools...

One of the "inconveniences" of our new location is that Sprint doesn't have coverage where we live. With four phones and a Treo 300, it's not a minor change to go to another provider.

However, especially since my work phone was also Sprint, I headed to Concord to sign up with Nextel. Other than being more expensive (isn't that always how it works out?) it looks like a good deal.

However, heading back I notice steam coming out from under my car's hood. That can never be good. A quick glance at the temperature gauge confirmed the emergency situation.

I pull over and let it cool off a bit. Then I grab a sheet in the trunk (no, I'm not in the KKK...it's to cover the seats when the dogs are in the car), and carefully unscrew the radiator top.

Which falls into an inaccessible place on the car frame. Not only would I have fried my arm trying, there was no way I could reach it. I could imagine having to call a tow truck to just get the darn thing back out.

Then it hit me, there are trees nearby. What I needed was a perfectly sized twig.

After congratulating myself for producing a successful rudimentary tool, I realized chimpanzees use sticks to get ants out of ant hills (as illuminated in "Dude, Where's my Car?").

I had reached the equivalent level of competence of a monkey! :-)

Chasing a Bear

It is pouring rain here. Rain and dogs don't mix.

I took Bear (our schipperke) out to "take care of business." The cold rain clearly doesn't get through his thick coat as effectively as it does my thin cranium covering...so he was in no rush to get back inside.

Next it was Shadow's turn (he is a black German shepherd). Shadow is clearly smarter than Bear, and didn't want to go get soaked. So, I pull him out, look up, and notice that Bear is at the corner of the lawn. The coniving beast snuck out.

After some corner-of-the lot investigation (and nipping at Shadow), Bear decided to head up a small hill to the front of the house. So, I put Shadow in, bring Mikey's bike in, put the lawnmower under the deck, and head to the front.

Bear clearly understands my intent to capture him, and makes a run for it up the road (and up a not-so-small hill).

If it weren't for a great smell on someone's lawn I would never have been able to apprehend him.

What a little sprinting monster :-)
