Memorial Day

MonumentThe weather held on long enough for the Antrim Memorial Day Parade and (just barely) the Bennington Memorial Day Parade. Mikey marched in both, playing the baritone.

As I stood in Bennington, listening to "Taps" followed by "The Star Spangled Banner," I wondered if 50 years from now these patriotic observances will seem so passé. I sure hope not -- it is with the lives of those who have come before that we have the freedom to celebrate (or not to)...

(If you click on the image you'll get a larger version of a soldier laying a wreath at the Antrim monument...)
