Rudimentary tools...

One of the "inconveniences" of our new location is that Sprint doesn't have coverage where we live. With four phones and a Treo 300, it's not a minor change to go to another provider.

However, especially since my work phone was also Sprint, I headed to Concord to sign up with Nextel. Other than being more expensive (isn't that always how it works out?) it looks like a good deal.

However, heading back I notice steam coming out from under my car's hood. That can never be good. A quick glance at the temperature gauge confirmed the emergency situation.

I pull over and let it cool off a bit. Then I grab a sheet in the trunk (no, I'm not in the KKK...it's to cover the seats when the dogs are in the car), and carefully unscrew the radiator top.

Which falls into an inaccessible place on the car frame. Not only would I have fried my arm trying, there was no way I could reach it. I could imagine having to call a tow truck to just get the darn thing back out.

Then it hit me, there are trees nearby. What I needed was a perfectly sized twig.

After congratulating myself for producing a successful rudimentary tool, I realized chimpanzees use sticks to get ants out of ant hills (as illuminated in "Dude, Where's my Car?").

I had reached the equivalent level of competence of a monkey! :-)
